| Making Pet Portraits
Drawing pet portraits is very detailed work. Each
pet has special characteristics which make them special and recognizable to us.
There is more to making a pet portrait than just
drawing a specific breed. There are countless identifiable areas that must be drawn
correctly in order for the pet to look right.
First, I begin with the eyes. I like them to look
as realistic as possible using highlights and deep tones to give them a curvy wet look.
Next come the nose and mouth, and possibly teeth and a
tongue. This area can be as unique as any human.
The fur around the head follows certain patterns and
must be drawn carefully in order to look soft, shiny, white, dark, fluffy, etc. It
is considered a good portrait if you actually want to touch it.

"Sweet Mutley". Though he is now gone, his gentle presence is felt as he
appears in the drawing. |
